PRAISE
for The Yellow Canary
"The Yellow Canary by Paul Lytle takes a fresh look at the comic book
world and those who live vicariously through the super-heroes that populate the pages of DC and
Marvel comics. With a sharp wit and a deep insight into human character and motivation, Lytle
conjures up for us a unique and multi-faceted friendship between a cynical reporter who thinks
he's seen it all (Romero) and a displaced, dispossessed male who has read so many comics that he
has (like Don Quixote) come to believe that he is a latter-day, urban knight. Romero agrees to
play the role of side-kick to this would-be super-hero merely to chronicle his exploits and thus
bolster his sagging journalistic career, but he comes in the end to believe in the idealism and
chivalry of this most unlikely of heroes. Funny without being cute, moving without being
sentimental, The Yellow Canary is written in a fast-paced, dialogue-rich style
reminiscent of those depression-era newspaper that chronicled the exploits of gangsters and GI
men. Engrossing from beginning to end with a supple plot that delivers its escalating
revelations at just the right pace, The Yellow Canary is a must read."
-Dr. Louis Markos, Professor of English, Houston Baptist University
author of Lewis Agonistes
"The Yellow Canary is a fascinating piece, written on a very
sophisticated level. The work is of a very fine high quality, far beyond what is expected of a
beginning author."
-Dr. Michael Bordelon, Professor of Political Science, Houston Baptist University
author of La Serenissima
